Working through issues and reaching mutual agreement

Mediation involves you and your ex partner attending sessions with a professionally trained lawyer – mediator in order discuss financial matters and children (if applicable) with a view to working through any issues and to reaching a mutual agreement between you.

The parties retain their own solicitor who can give them legal advice outside the mediation process.

At MTM we have a well- established and successful mediation practice with three accredited lawyer mediators who are able to mediate in your case. If you are interested in this service, please contact Shona Templeton, Caroline Smith or Michaela Hinchin, who will be able to answer any questions you may have about this process.

Alternatively, we can advise and refer you to a mediator, helping you to use the process effectively and preparing the documentation to complete any agreement reached.

Further information on the process can be found from

Our Mediators are accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and are also members of CALM Scotland (Comprehensive Accredited Lawyer Mediators).
